#6 Dance
Character: Ron Speirs
Words: 100
Rating: PG
He was like a twirling deadly dervish as he spun, jumped, ducked, and twirled all while firing his tommy gun. For him war was like a dance, you just had to out maneuver your partner and whoever was left standing would win. Some men couldn’t find the beat; some were too slow, others too fast. For him the dance was exhilarating and terrifying and regardless of the outcome he was a dead man anyway.
“Don’t you ever get tired of the dance of war?” Lipton asked one night.
“No, because during the dance is when I feel the most alive.”
#5 Light
Character: Winters
Words: 100
Rating: G
It amazed him the different types of light he had encountered during the war. There were the search lights from D-Day, the bright sunshine as they liberated Holland and lightness of the people’s hearts as they embraced and kissed them. There was the cold winter light as they fought in Bastogne, the pink sunrise over Foy he shared with Nixon. Then there was the blinding light in the hundreds of prisoner’s eyes as they realized they were ‘Frei’. The best according to him was of Zell am See, because it signaled the end of the war, freedom, happiness, and joy.
