Writer's Block: News development

What's the first major news event that you remember hearing about as a child? Where did you learn about it? How did it impact your world view?

The first major event I remember as a child was the assasination of John Lennon. I remember sitting there watching the nightly news and saw the images of people praying, crying etc. I just remember the sadness of it and even though I was really young I knew it was important so I paid attention. My mother was a huge Beatle's fan and I think she was the most upset by it. My world view changed as I saw that death can come quickly and unexpectadly. 3 years ago when I went to New York City I visited the spot where John died as well as Strawberry Fields. There was guy there who had placed a bunch of gorgeous flowers around the "Imagine" mosaic in a peace sign. Another guy was sitting there singing John Lennon songs. It was such a great experience. Even though I was young, John Lennon touched my life and I can't stop listening to his music.

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. Someday I hope you'll join us, and the world will live as on." ~John Lennon "Imagine"
